Celebration of Our Learning
To celebrate the end of SATs and their hard work, Year 6 enjoyed having an ice lolly while chatting with their friends on the field. We also had great fun playing a range of board games in the classroom. The children loved their well-deserved celebrations and particularly enjoyed beating their teachers at their favourite board games! (May, 2026)
This half term, Year 6 have shown incredible hard-work, determination and maturity when completing their SATs. The children have approached every test with focus, resilience and a positive attitude. We have been extremely impressed by the way they have stayed calm under pressure, supported one another and continued to give their very best effort. In History, Year 6 have been learning about the 'Dig for Victory' campaign during World War Two. We learnt about the purpose of the campaign and looked at a variety of example posters, discussing what we liked about them and the persuasive techniques used. Afterwards, we created our own 'Dig for Victory' posters, using slogans, catchy titles, colourful pictures and characters. (April, 2026)
This week, Year 6 took part in a SATRO Coding Workshop. We worked collaboratively with a partner to follow instructions to build different Lego structures before using our problem-solving and coding skills to make the creations move. The children showed excellent teamwork and resilience throughout and had a great time! (April, 2026)
As part of our history learning, Year 6 went on a school trip to The Rural Life Living Museum to learn more about WW2. We dressed as evacuees and took part in a variety of exciting activities. We experienced what life would have been like in an evacuee school and participated in some role play. We also got the opportunity to go on a steam train journey and explore the shelters and buildings that were around at the time. In the Make Do and Mend session, we learnt about rag rugging and had a go at doing this ourselves using a wooden clothes peg. We all had a fantastic day! (March, 2026)
This week, Year 6 celebrated World Book Day! The children dressed up as their favourite character from one of their favourite books and the Year 6 teachers dressed up as characters from one of our Year 6 books: Holes. In assembly, the Masked Readers were revealed and the children loved creating a movie of them retelling the story of 'Rain Before Rainbows' for their reception buddies on iMovie. It was a brilliant day! (March, 2026)
In Science, Year 6 have been learning about the circulatory system. This week, we learnt more about the heart and its functions. Each class created models out of playdough to explain the structure of the heart. Look how great our models and annotations are! (March, 2026)
In English, Year 6 have been learning about Anne Frank. Together, we read the book 'Anne Frank' by Josephine Poole. We wrote poems about Anne Frank's life and presented them in creative ways. The Year 6 teachers are so impressed with the inspiring poems the children have created. (March, 2026)
In DT this half term, Year 6 designed and created their own rainforest dioramas. We focused on showing the different layers of the rainforest and made a moving mechanism to go inside. At the end of the half term, we held a Year 6 DT exhibition where we had the opportunity to look at everyone's dioramas - even our reception buddies came to take a look! (February 2026)
In Computing, Year 6 have been learning about programming. We have learnt about what variables are and how we can change variables within a game. The children loved creating their own basic game on scratch with a focus on variables! (February, 2026)
In Geography, Year 6 have been learning about rainforests. We have learnt about the different layers of the rainforest and created fact files on animals that live there. (January 2026)
In Science, Year 6 have been learning about light. We investigated whether the distance an object is from the light source affects the size of the shadow it produces. After conducting a fair test, we presented our results in a graph. (January 2026)
In RE, we learnt about the Buddhist festival: Vesak and how it is celebrated. We carried out our own research and produced our work creatively in our books. (January 2026)
In English, Year 6 have produced detailed non-chronological reports on the history of highwaymen. We also created persuasive leaflets to help catch the Highwayman. (January 2026)

Photo of 'I Made A Wish Today': In English, we wrote our own motivational speeches about our hopes and dreams for the world, the country and our family and friends. Our writing was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr's 'I Have a Dream' speech. (October 2025)
