Academic Year 2026-27
Art Club The children learned what it means to be an artist. They discovered that artists are skilled at noticing shapes and details in the world around them. To develop their observational drawing skills, the children went on a walk with their sketchbooks and drew the shapes they spotted along the way. (October 2026)
Drawing Club This week in Drawing Club, the children explored the story of Ravi’s Roar. They enjoyed creating character drawings and drawing delicious snacks for Ravi. The children used their sound knowledge to label their drawings and even created a magical secret code to bring their artwork to life! (October 2026)
International Day For International Day, Reception learnt about Scotland and Germany. When learning about Germany, children loved practising speaking in German. They shared the traditional fairy tale of Hansel and Gretal and they decorated their own Gingerbread cottage door. Carefully spreading icing with a spoon.
When learning about Scotland, children explored traditional Scottish stories, myths and legends. They looked at images of the Scottish landscape and used their bodies to make the shape of mountains and caves. The children pretended to be Scottish giants on the field and they explored how giants would move and how they would sound. The giants then collaborated to build their own Scotland. Once completed, they created their own Loch Ness monster with clay to add to the Loch. (October 2026)
Phonics In Phonics, we learnt the sounds i, n, p, g, o. To support the learning of the sound 'p' the children created their own muddy puddles. They practised getting themselves changed into their puddle suits and wellies. What great memories we created together. (October 2026)
Drawing Club This week the children have been exploring the story of 'The Colour Monster' through 'Drawing Club'. Children have worked in small groups with the teacher to draw their own colour monster. They have created magical codes, learning that writing goes from left to right. Their magical codes make their drawings come to life. (October 2026)
Settling In The Reception children have settled in brilliantly, making great relationships and trying new things. We have been amazed with how well the children have picked up our school routines and expectations. They have been developing their emotional vocabulary through our key stories of 'Ravi's Roar' and 'The Colour Monster', and understanding the importance of turn-taking and using words to express their emotions. We have used parachute games as a way to get to know one another and to get to know our teachers. (October 2026)
Celebrating What Makes Us Different Through small group drawing time as well as big group games, the children have spoken about their families and celebrated what makes them unique. (September 2026)
Gross Motor Skills Children have been developing their core strength and balancing skills to help them to prepare for writing. (September 2026)
Mark Making The children have also been exploring mark making in sensory ways- such as mark making in rice and flour. (September 2026)
