Academic Year 2026-27
Our Year 4 children thoroughly enjoyed a visit from a heathland and bird expert, who brought our learning to life with his fascinating knowledge and enthusiasm. The children were fully engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and showing great interest in the wildlife and habitats we have been studying. He shared a wealth of useful advice and insights, helping us to deepen our understanding of the topic and inspiring the children to learn even more about the natural world. We are extremely grateful for his time and expertise and look forward to welcoming him back again around May next year. (September 2026)
Forest School Stingray Class have been having a fantastic time at Forest School, exploring, creating and learning through hands-on experiences in nature. The children have shown great teamwork and imagination while building dens, carefully engineering structures and solving problems together. They have also loved creating magical potions using natural materials they have found around the site. (October 2026)
Scone Making Year 4 have had a wonderful time this week planning and baking delicious scones. The children carefully chose the ingredients they wanted to use and practised their maths skills by researching and pricing them on a supermarket website. They then put their plans into action in the kitchen, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm as they mixed, baked and prepared their scones. To round off the week, we spent the last ten minutes of the school day sitting in the sunshine together, eating our scones! It was a lovely way to celebrate all of the children's hard work, and the scones were a huge success! (October 2026)
Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed their maths learning this half term, developing their understanding of rounding, number patterns and addition. The children have approached each topic with enthusiasm and confidence, tackling challenges and explaining their thinking clearly. Their maths journals are a fantastic reflection of their learning journey, showcasing the many different strategies they already know and can apply to solve problems. It has been wonderful to see the children using a range of methods, exploring patterns and making mathematical connections, while growing in confidence and independence as mathematicians. English - The Dish and the Spoon Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed writing and publishing their own sequels to Dish and Spoon as part of our English learning. The children impressed us with their creativity, coming up with a wide range of imaginative story ideas that built on the characters and themes from the original text. They worked hard to develop their stories, carefully considering their plots, settings and illustrations before turning them into their very own picture books. It has been wonderful to see the pride and enthusiasm they have shown throughout the process, and the finished books are a fantastic showcase of their storytelling skills and imagination.
