Academic Year 2026-27

Year 3 Cookery Year 3 had a wonderful time making apple crumble together as a class. We carefully measured the ingredients, mixed them together, chopped the apples and assembled the crumble, working as a team throughout the process. Once it was baked, we tasted our delicious creations and evaluated what went well and what we would do differently next time. (October 2026)

English Year 3 created their own instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth using imperative verbs, adjectives and time conjunctions. They carefully organised each step, using words such as first, next and finally to make their instructions clear and easy to follow. The children showed great creativity by including powerful adjectives and bossy verbs to make their writing engaging and effective. (October 2026)

Maths Lessons Year 3 have now come to the end of their learning on adding ones, tens and hundreds with renaming. Throughout this unit, the children have developed their understanding of renaming and regrouping numbers when adding larger amounts. We used a range of practical resources, including ten frames and dienes blocks, to help us visualise the maths and work out the answers step by step. The children enjoyed using these hands-on resources to build their confidence and explain their reasoning. It has been wonderful to see their progress as they have become more accurate and independent when solving addition problems involving renaming. (October 2026)

Art Year 3 have been exploring different charcoal techniques using a 12-box practice grid. They experimented with smudging, dotting, hatching, and creating both faint and dark lines to see how different effects can be achieved. The children carefully practised controlling the pressure of their charcoal and used a range of techniques to add texture, tone and detail to their work. (October 2026)

History - The Stone Age During our History lesson, Year 3 were challenged to step back in time and become a Stone Age family. We went out onto the field and worked together to set up a camp using natural materials we could find around us. The children gathered sticks, leaves and branches to create fire pits and shelters, and even designed hunting weapons such as spears. This hands-on activity helped the children understand how Stone Age people survived by using the resources available in their environment to find food, stay safe and support their families.
