Celebration of Our Learning

In music, year 5 are using an online music studio to make some spooky songs. So far they have added some melody and drums and bass to their creepy creations. (January 2026)

In our final week of our Shackleton project we wrote poems. We used our poetry checklists to create detailed and descriptive poems about the Weddell Sea! (January 2026)

Year 5 took part in a Dissolving experiment! We timed how long it took to dissolve various amounts of salt into water! (January 2026)

Year 5 made quesadillas as part of our DT! We chose healthy fillings and made the tortilla from scratch! (January 2026)

This week we have started our Fractions topic in Year 5. We have been looking at equivalent fractions and remembering whatever we do to the numerator we HAVE to do the denominator!

Year 5 celebrated Christingle this week! We made our Christingles and learnt that the orange represents the world, the red ribbon represents the blood of Christ. The light signifies the light of Christ and the four sticks with sweets signify the four seasons and the fruits of the world. Thank you David for the lovely service. (January 2026)

Year 5 enjoyed learning all about set design this week, in particular Rae Smith who developed the set for War Horse. We spent time looking at the development from her sketch books to the stage and answered some very thought provoking questions!

Christmas fun!

As part of our Space topic, year 5 learnt about the process of night and day. We used torches and footballs to represent the sun and earth and turned it into some very fun and practical learning!

We are heading towards our final project in Art this half term. We have spent the weeks looking at light and dark field printing as well as tracing and marking using ink. To form our final projects we chose our favourite poem from the table and used it to form our ideas. As we were working we had to keep thinking to what technique would work best with this image.

Year 5 have been enjoying Netball this term! We have developed our defending and shooting skills and the children have loved our five a side matches!

Year 5's designed their own mythical Greek beasts and then wrote them into their own Greek story!
